Training: Instructor-led Classes
CIT Computing provides hands-on classes and online seminars for IANR-specific topics (e.g., County Web App, CIT CMS, eARFA, etc.). These are scheduled on an as-needed basis.
If you are looking for instructor-led classes to help you improve your computer skills for desktop applications, MyUNL Blackboard usage, or technical training check out these resources from UNL and other organizations. You can select from live face-to-face classes or online asynchronous classes. The online asynchronous classes allow you to go through the materials 24/7 while the class is in session. Most classes are offered for free or for minimal cost.
UNL offerings (live, face-to-face)
The Instructional Technology Group within UNL Information Services offers faculty/staff technology workshops on topics specific to UNL. Topics include MyUNL Blackboard course management system, Macromedia Breeze Presenter or Meeting, and Adobe Dreamweaver and InDesign. Workshops on Microsoft Office applications are provided in cooperation with the Business & Finance Shared Computing Services staff. Cost for a workshop varies from free to $40.
Information Services has contracted with TechEd Solutions in Lincoln to provide technical training opportunities at a reduced rate. Class topics include system administration, programming, multimedia, project management, and more. UNL employees may also enroll in TechEd Solutions public classes for the UNL price. For classes that aren’t listed on the ITG Training website, please contact Linda Aden (laden@unlnotes.unl.edu) before you enroll.
The Instructional Technology Group also offers free student technology training workshops.
Other vendors (live, face-to-face)
Check with your local community college campus. For example, Southeast Community College offers evening and one-day classes on Microsoft software, website design, and other topics.
University faculty and staff may also want to contact these vendors. Some vendors offer a discount for university employees, so be sure to ask about the policy.
